Biography
I earned my B.A. in Psychology from California State University, Northridge (CSUN), and both my M.A. and PsyD from the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP).
Before transitioning into higher education, I worked as a mental health practitioner. My clinical experience included working with children, adolescents, and adults with a range of presenting concerns and psychological disorders, including schizophrenia spectrum disorders, mood disorders, eating disorders, and trauma-related concerns. Much of my clinical work focused on young children with histories of abuse, including children who had experienced multiple forms of maltreatment.
After my years in clinical practice, I transitioned into education and have been teaching at Mount Saint Mary’s University. I truly love being a faculty member at the Mount. My students are my pride and joy, and they are the source of my passion for teaching. I enjoy being part of their growth, supporting them through academic challenges, and watching them develop confidence in themselves and their abilities.
I also deeply value working with my department colleagues, faculty, and staff. Their dedication, care, and passion for students continue to inspire me to grow as a professor. To me, the Mount truly reflects a strong sense of civility, support, and community. Help and encouragement can be found in many places when one is willing to ask.
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy reading, knitting, crocheting, gardening, and spending time with my family and pets. I have also become increasingly interested in travel and especially enjoy the summer opportunities to visit different countries, learn from different cultures, meet new people, and experience local food and traditions.
Research Topics of Interest
My research interests include topics related to the development, training, and professional growth of mental health professionals, particularly how clinicians can continue to strengthen their work and better serve the communities they support.
I am also interested in topics related to Filipino Americans, including mental health, identity, culture, family systems, and help-seeking experiences.
As a research mentor, I especially enjoy helping students explore topics that are meaningful to them. My goal is to support students as they narrow their ideas, develop their projects, and work toward a finished product they can feel proud of.
